Established in 1961 the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) is the one international wildlife conservation organization dedicated to promoting conditions suitable for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and related wildlife to sustain our sport hunting tradition and outdoor heritage.
Charles E. Bechtel Chapter History
The chapter was originally the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, having been chartered by RGS on March, 8, 1978. The chapter covered the entire SE corner of PA. The name was changed to the Charles E. Bechtel Chapter on July 25, 1986, being named after one of the founders. The committee members were Dr. James Parker, Charles E. Bechtel, Bill Mactavish and Mr. Shirk. Past chairmen were Dr. Parker, Dick Hill, Bob Coleman, and the current chairman is John Cave. The first Sportsmen's Banquet was held at the Riveredge in September 1978 and the chapter raised $3,000. The Spring Field Day has been held every year since 1984. Luke Bollinger started the Sponsors Banquet in 1987. The Chapter Shoot was started by Dick Shuman in 2003.
Since 1990, the Charles E. Bechtel Chapter has contributed over $315,000 in net revenues to RGS.
